  1. 1) Tell what you liked or did not like so far about the book.

So far I have not enjoyed a single thing about our book, the subject matter is weird, the writing is childish and the cartoons are unnecessary and sub-par.

    2) Ask a question or make a prediction.

I want to know how the story will end as currently, Junior has not had any positive things happen in his life.

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it.

"He was always crying and screaming and kicking and punching." I chose this quote as it shows how Junior's life has been bad/difficult since birth.

    1. Well Said! I had that question too! I think that his life will definitely improve and that maybe he will even move to Montana with his sister. I think that is a little harsh on the book though. Hopefully your opinion improves over time.

  3. Week 2
So far I have enjoyed how Junior has developed as a character and learning about his life and past. I think that all of the characters are very well described, and you can tell that a lot of thought went into their creation. So far while reading I have disliked the jokes, as I find them immature and unnecessarily inappropriate. Overall, I don't really dislike the book, but I am not as immersed in the storyline as I would like. As the book continues, I predict that Junior's condition will cause him problems. This is because he has had seizures in the past and he still has mental and physical disabilities. A quote from the book that I find inspiring is from Junior's smart friend, Gordy. "If you're good at it, and you love it, and it helps you navigate the river of the world, then it can't be wrong." I chose this quote because it is inspiring and applies to everyone. If someone loves something and it helps them through life, it is almost certainty something good that they should continue to do. In this case that is Junior and his comics. Altogether, I think that the book is well written, but I do not enjoy the jokes. I also hope that Junior's life improves and that the storyline becomes a bit less repetitive.

  4. through the many chapters that I have read of this book, I have come to the conclusion that I strongly dislike this novel. I felt as if I couldn't get into the book and that there weren't many details. It's more of a "talking book" and less of a descriptive book. I like to be able to get engulfed into the novel so it feels like I'm actually inside the story. I don't like how childish the book is and I feel like it's lacking content. Will junior be successful since he's in his new school?
"His father is drinking hard and throwing hard punches, so Rowdy and his mother are always walking around with bruised and bloody faces. "it's war paint" Rowdy always says. "It just makes me look tougher".
I chose this quote because it shows how Rowdy and his mother put up with his alcoholic father. Rowdy secretly doesn't like being punched, but he uses the battle scars to scare off others.

    2. I like your quote. I agree with you on the fact that the book is not descriptive enough and it is hard to get emerged in the storyline. I think Junior will definitely be more successful in his new school. (My comment that I deleted was just to let you know that your username is not capitalized.) Good Work!

  5. 1. Tell what you liked or did not like about the book so far.

Within the first section we have read of the book, I am not at all engaged. The book has very boring and repetitive content, the same events keep happening over and over again.

    2. Ask a question or make a prediction.

Since the events do seem to keep repeating, I predict that Junior will keep going through difficult times. Hopefully he will be able get over them in the future. I want to know if Junior will ever move away or change his lifestyle.

    3. Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you chose it.

"Poverty = empty refridgerator + empty stomach"

I chose this quote because it shows the lifestyle that Junior is living. He has very poor living conditions on top of all of the fights he is getting into at school.

    1. I agree that the book is quite repetitive, and I also find it hard to become engaged. I actually think that Junior's life will improve somewhat, but there will still many struggles for him. I think that the quote you chose is very reflective of the book overall. Good job!

  6. 1) Tell what you liked or did not like so far about the book.

i am not enjoying our book, there doesn't seem to be any real plot line or conflict. the main character is supposed to be a fourteen year old that we can relate to on some topics such as fitting in but the author doesn't do a good job at that. i don't like the subjects discussed, they are worded awkwardly. I've also started looking at the book in a different light since the sexual assault allegations came out against the author.

    2) Ask a question or make a prediction.

i think that rowdy and junior will become friends again

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it.

    i missed him.
so i drew a cartoon of rowdy and me like we used to be

this quote shows that junior misses rowdy.

    1. I also think that the plot is quite basic but I think it has been picking up as we continue on. I also don't like the fact that the author has allegations against him, and that they were found out to be true. I try to ignore that as I read the book. I think that Rowdy and Junior will become friends again because it is mutually beneficial.

  7. 1. Tell what you liked or did not like about the book so far.

i dint like how the book is written and how it really weird and know one can relate to most things in the book

    2. Ask a question or make a prediction.

why didn't Rowley go with Arnold to the new school

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it.

"Where is hope?" I asked. "Who has hope?"
i chose this quote because Arnold is confused and how he isn't sure if he has hope at all

    1. I think that Rowdy did not got with Arnold because he is scared of going off the reserve and being judged or not feared like he his on the reserve. I really like your quote because I think it is symbolic of the book so far.

  8. 1) Tell what you liked or did not like so far about the book.
At first I did enjoy the book but as I read more and more I realised that it was quite repetive and that he seemed to always go through the predicaments and problems. I can tell that junior will keep going through problems and have harships.

    2) Ask a question or make a prediction.
As I said in the previous qustion i can tell that he will still be going through thhe harships he was facing. Him being the only first nations at his school and everone on his reservation hating him. Thinking he was a traitor to his kind.

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it.
"I'm only an alchoholic when i drink" I know this is techinically from a cartoon but I used it anyway. I chose this quote because it really does show you what alchoholism does do a person and how something like that would affect others around you.

    1. I am actually the other way round, as I have started to enjoy the book more as it goes on because I think the storyline is developing. I also think that Junior will continue to go through hardships but I think that e will keep his new friends.

  9. 1) Tell what you liked or did not like so far about the book.
    - At the begining of the book I really didn't like it because it had continous reoccuring events, and it just felt really boring to read, and everything was very repetive, and it seemed like the same events kept happening, but as I read more through the book it started to get more interesting because new events actually started to occur.

    2) Ask a question or make a prediction.
I wonder if he is going to start to really fit in at his new school, because at the begining of his move to the new school, he did not sem to fit in at all, but I think as the book goes on he will make more friends because of Penelope and Rodger, and he will start to enjoy his school much more.

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it.
"If you let people into your life a little bit, they can be pretty damn amazing." I chose this quote because Junior seems to be the type of person to really struggle, as hes very emotional, and sensitive, and he's not the type of person to make friends very easy because of that, but this quote kind of explained that that people need to stop judging books by there cover, because the more you get to know them, the more they are involved in your life and they can be quite amazing and important. For junior I feel like that quote will help him in his future, because if he lets people in his life more they can be pretty important and great.

  10. 1) Tell what you liked or did not like so far about the book.

Although I still dislike the book, this section actually picked up and got a tad more exciting than the last.

    2) Ask a question or make a prediction.

I want to know if Junior creates any deep relationships with the new kids, although he knows people, he doesn't have any keep connections.

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it.

"I'm only an alcoholic when i drink" This quote shows the affects alcoholism can have on someone, whether they admit it or not.

  11. When I first starting reading this book I had no interest in the book at all. Going into this week I had a different mindset and I tried to focus more in the book. Doing this, I was more easily able to find the important parts of the book and learn more about the characters. Even though the book is repetative the events are slowly starting to get more interesting. I do think that Juniors life is starting to get to be too good, this is because he is feeling welcome on the basketball team and he is being supported. This is leading me to believe that he will soon go through trama. Will Junior go through more struggles in the next section?

"You stitch me up. I want to play tonight." This shows that Junior wanted to support his team no matter how he felt. It taught us that Junior in a hard worker and he won;t let anything get in his way.

  12. Week 3:
As we continue to read the book I have started to like it a bit more. I enjoy the relationships forming between the main characters and also the fact that Junior's life is slowly improving. Up until this point the book had been quite dull and uneventful, but the plot has started to develop more. A question I have is whether or not Junior's life is going to continue to improve or whether it will go downhill. My prediction is that there might be a life changing event that will very negatively effect Junior's life. A quote from the book that I think embodies all of this is: "If you let people into your life a little bit, they can be pretty amazing." This is from page 129 and shows how Junior is becoming more trusting and also making friends. Overall, I think that the book is slowly improving but is still a bit dull.

  13. 1) Tell what you liked or did not like so far about the book.
The book is hard to get engaged in and is very repetitive. It seems very predictable and the book is not challenging

    2) Ask a question or make a prediction. Will everything continue to go well for Arnold at his new school

    3) Provide a quote from the book, and explain why you choose it. "I'm honored by this but I dont think I can do it" I chose this because it shows his lack of self confidence.
